The Magazine Rack: Ravage US #1 and Line of Fire #18 Reviewed

Magazine: Ravage US Edition Issue #1

Publisher: CoolMiniOrNot

Editor: Kevin Clark

Pages: 69

Retail: $6.99

I’ll say I wasn’t familiar with Ravage before our trip to Origins this year. I suppose the reason behind this is the independent fantasy and science fiction miniatures magazine was only published in French. That is until now! The first issue of the U.S. edition of Ravage hit newsstands a couple months back (the second issue is now available as well) and let me say it’s a doozy!

Ravage is an independent magazine so they’re free to tackle anything table top gaming related and the first issue is chock full of goodness! Along with plenty of [...]

The Gaming Gang Extra 41: Origins 2012 Raw – Mark Walker of Lock ‘N Load Publishing

I have to say one of our favorite people to kick it and chat with is Mark Walker of Lock ‘n Load Publishing. Mark joined us, on the Origins 2012 floor, to talk about what’s currently cooking at LnL as well as some projects that are on the horizon. As you’ll hear, a game that demands your attention is Run, Fight, or Die – currently part of the preorder system at Lock ‘n Load! Designed by Richard Lanius, we’ve mentioned this before on the website as this sounds like a title that really needs to see print!

This Isn’t Your Momma’s Cold War: Nuklear Winter ’68 Reviewed

I highly recommend Nuklear Winter ’68 as it’s a departure in theme for LnL. If you’re a fan of other LnL games, you’ll really dig this one too. If you’ve never given LnL a try, this is a great title to make your acquaintance. There’s loads of theme, great scenarios, well balanced factions, and an excellent time to be had by all!

The Gaming Gang Episode 40: Flat Acting, Levee en Masse, Locke & Key, and Nuklear Winter ‘68, and More!

Another jam packed show as Elliott reviews Flat Acting from Eye-Level Entertainment and Locke & Key from Cryptozoic Entertainment while Jeff reviews Levee en Masse from Victory Point Games and Nuklear Winter ’68 from Lock ‘N Load Publishing.

Of course it wouldn’t be an episode of TGG without our usual off the cuff remarks and pop culture references…

White Star Rising: Operation Cobra Now Shipping from Lock ‘n Load

A new expansion to the Lock ‘n Load Publishing title White Star Rising, part of the Nations at War series, is now shipping. I enjoyed WSR and you can catch my review here.

This new expansion tackles more of the Allied breakout from the beaches of Normandy during WWII and is entitled White Star Rising: Operation Cobra.

From Lock ‘n Load:

White Star Rising: Operation Cobra is an expansion for the game White Star Rising in the Nations at War series. This expansion focuses on the events surrounding the Allied breakout from the Normandy beachhead over the course of a month in July-August 1944. White Star Rising: Operation Cobra adds the Canadians, the Free [...]

Space Infantry Expands with New Worlds

Lock ‘n Load Publishing has announced a new addition to their “Guffless Preorder System” (sort of a cross between Kickstarter and a P500) and it’s an expansion to a game that Elliott really enjoys, Space Infantry – you can read Elliott’s review here. The new title is an expansion for the science fiction game called Space Infantry: New Worlds!

From Lock ‘m Load:

Space Infantry was one of our most popular games in 2011. Now designer Gottardo Zancani is back with another heaping helping of science fiction, solitaire gaming goodness. Space Infantry: New Worlds includes new missions, new enemies, and special creatures, all in one, [...]

Nuklear Winter ’68 Now Shipping!

A game that has been on Elliott’s and my radar for quite some time is finally available from Lock ‘n Load Publishing. The game is Nuklear Winter ’68, designed by Petre Tutunea, and the title brings an alternate history setting with trappings of science fiction.

From Lock n’ Load:

Nuklear Winter is in our house and now shipping. Don’t miss your chance to get in on a unique platoon-level game, set in a unique alternate history. The former German territory, transformed into a wasteland by the war-ending nuclear holocaust of 1946, is the setting for this three-way battle for supremacy. Fight as the resurgent Drittes Reich with their powerful [...]

No Time for Tea: A Preview of In Defeat, Defiance

No Time for Tea: A Preview of In Defeat, Defiance, a Heroes of the Blitzkrieg Expansion Module

By Dale Holmstrom

After a long dry spell of not being creative—unless you count having your first child at the age of forty-three as such—I readily accepted a request from Mark Walker to help work on an expansion for Heroes of the Blitzkrieg. The company has grown up since I last worked on something this similar in scope. Some of my virtual friends who helped me on those previous projects are gone or working new games of their own. I felt a little alone in the woods, but then, one of my other hobbies is to be alone in the woods pursuing Bambi, so I was stoked to work on this [...]

Forgotten No More: A Review of Lock ‘n Load Forgotten Heroes Vietnam

All in all Lock 'n Load's Forgotten Heroes: Vietnam is an excellent game. There’s a lot here but once you’ve played through a few turns you can easily get the hang of it. I feel the game models smaller scale actions in Vietnam extremely well and, outside of a minor quibble I have here and there, is certainly worthy of a place on the gaming shelf of any wargamer and even those new to the genre with an interest in the U.S. involvement in Vietnam.

A Gamer’s First Impressions of Warparty

Mark Walker of Lock ‘n Load Games shared this first impression he received regarding the new title Warparty which is coming soon…

First Encounter

By Norm Lunde

At this year’s NJCON (see I had the opportunity to participate in a demonstration of Warparty, the new game from designer Larry Bogucki and currently on pre-order at Lock ‘n Load Publishing. Warparty is a hybrid of strategy, economic empire-building, tactical combat, and role-playing within a fantasy-themed world. Others have described it as Axis and Allies meets Dungeons and Dragons, which sums it up neatly, but there is much more to say about this game.

The world [...]

Mark H. Walker Looks at Heroes of the Pacific

After a brief hiatus from World War II, the award-wining Lock ‘n Load game system returns to the Second War to end all wars with a vengeance. Twelve frantic firefights from America’s island-hopping campaign in the Pacific comprise this complete Lock ‘n Load game.

You will lead desperate Marines struggling ashore on Tarawa, face a counterattack of HA GO tanks at the Peleliu airfield, fight for Kitano Point on Iwo Jima, and more.

It isn’t, however, all about the Marines. Heroes of the Pacific comes chock full of the U.S. Army’s finest, as well as the Imperial Japanese Army. All drawn with the painstaking detail our fans have come to expect.
