Telltale Games will soon be releasing the first episode of their five episode video game based on Robert Kirkman’s “The Walking Dead”.

Like the comic and the show, the game will concentrate on the story and characters, but will feature a different group than the ones in the comic. After all, a lot more people were affected than just Rick and his little group by the zombie apocalypse, although they will be making appearances.

The game will follow the story of Lee Everett, a man on his way to prison when the zombies emerge. Unlike Rick, Lee has to face the zombies from the start. For the first time you will see the beginning of the Zombiegeddon, while Rick is lying unconscious in the hospital.

The graphics are based on the artwork in the comic by Charlie Adlard, so the whole game has the gritty feel of the comics.

Telltale describes the game as “An Adventure Horror game. This game will offer a different experience compared to many other zombie-based games. You won’t be mowing down hordes of the undead as a super-powered killing machine with unlimited ammo; that would not be an accurate recreation of Robert Kirkman’s world. When you do tangle with the undead, it’s going to be harrowing. That walker could be someone you once knew…or were very close to. Also, gunfire (or loud noises in general) is not good in areas where walkers could be lurking.”

The game is being released in episodes, five to be exact, which will take a skilled player about two hours each to play. The reason for the episodic play is to keep with the feel of the comics and the show, which are episodic by nature.

The Walking Dead video game will not be available in stores, it will be a digital download onto most gaming platforms, including the PC. Here’s the trailer for the game introduced by Robert Kirkman, it is rated M for Mature Audiences only.

One cool thing they have going, if you pre-order the game now you are entered into a contest. One winner will be drawn into the game, killed, come back as a zombie, and get killed again. How cool is that? The details are on their website.

The game can be pre-ordered now for $22.49
