Val Kilmer will be performing a two week stint in a one man show as the Great Storyteller, Mark Twain. Citizen Twain was written, directed, and stars Kilmer, and will be performed at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, in the Masonic lodge over the next two weekends.

The show is a way for Kilmer to prepare for his upcoming movie role as Twain in Mark Twain and Mary Baker Eddy, due out in 2013. The movie is partially financed by Val Kilmer himself, through the sale of his home in New Mexico.

The movie concerns the feud between Clemens and Mary Baker Eddy, the founder of Christian Science. Clemens wrote many a screed (a long monotonous speech or piece of writing) against her views, although the two never met in person.

As most of us know from his earlier roles, Kilmer devotes himself to his roles. If you haven’t seen his performance as Doc Holliday in Tombstone, you’re missing an excellent performance. Sure, that was 19 years ago, but it led to a role as the Dark Knight himself. It makes me wonder though, how he prepared for his role as John Holmes in Wonderland.

Kilmer as Twain is truly amazing to see. He has the look down, and in the clip below, you can hear that he has devoted a lot of time to the voice as well.

You can order your tickets for Citizen Twain now!

  1. I like Val Killmer as an actor I think he becomes his characters Loved him in Tombstone and Batman and The Doors and as The Saint. His acting is great, but as a person he kinda creeps me out.

  2. I have to say I’d be interested in checking this out. I love Mark Twain’s works (many that the average reader has never even heard of in fact) and have to say the Hal Holbrook one man show, Mark Twain Tonight, is excellent to see or hear. Of course, having performed it for around 50 years I think Hal would have it down pat by now…
