I’m not sure why Wizards of the Coast *ahem* Hasbro would use the Battleship moniker for this upcoming release since it looks as if it’s as far removed from the original Battleship as a modern missile cruiser is from a WWI cruiser, but I’m not a marketing guy. Battleship Galaxies: The Saturn Offensive hits store shelves this week and, as much as I hate to say this, it looks like it could be an interesting game.
From WoC:
Outsmart and outmaneuver your enemy with courage, instinct and strategy as the theater of battle launches into the vast reaches of space.
When Saturn’s mining settlement is attacked by warmongering aliens known as The Wretcheridians, the newly-commissioned First Fleet of the Intergalactic Space Navy races back from the edges of the solar system to mount a fierce defense against the invaders.
Outgunned and outnumbered, the brave young ISN officers strategically drive the battle deep into the rings of Saturn to begin a deadly game of seek and destroy. Command the ISN fleet and defend the settlement. Or lead the attack as the commander of the ruthless Wretcheridian invaders.
Casual gamers, step aside—this is not your grandpappy’s Battleship. The dreadnaughts have left the harbor for the vast oceans of space!
Battleship Galaxies is an all-new way to play the beloved classic. Use customized ship and tactic cards to build your fleet and engage the enemy. Play as either the Intergalactic Space Navy, defenders of Earth and its home galaxy, or as the Wretcheridians, ruthless alien invaders who shoot to kill and take no prisoners.
In the game, you will meet the heroic Executive Officer Bronson Skiles and his fearless first lieutenant Erin Cho of the ISN; Krall Draxus, Vindicator Rex and Supreme Lord of the Collective, leads the ruthless Wretch. There are also new ships, including the majestic ISN Everest and the terrifying Vapor’s Fate. Each character and ship boasts special abilities that will help spell victory for your fleet. Choose from five unique missions, each representing a pivotal battle between these epic forces. Or, after you’ve played several games, you may want to create your own missions. In this futuristic hunt in the darkness, it’s going to take skill, ingenuity and guts to outmaneuver the enemy.
Alright, whoever came up with the name Wretcheridians probably needs a slap for their wretched imagination, but could it be that there’s a good game here regardless of the stupid name of the aliens?
