Less Than Two Weeks Left to Back Specimen on Kickstarter

Specimen from Toxic Bag Productions is currently running on Kickstarter with only 13 days to go. This looks like an interesting game. It reminds me mostly of Alien, as Jeff mentioned before. Those in the Chicagoland Area can demo the game at the following locations:

Wednesday, Sept. 26, 7:30pm: at Chicagoland Games: The Dice Dojo, 5550 N. Broadway, Chicago

Thursday, Sept. 27: at Brainstorm Comics, 1648 W. North Ave., Chicago (Time TBD)

Saturday, Sept. 29, noon-6pm: at Games Plus, 101 W. Prospect Ave, Mount Prospect, IL

Deep Space – Echo Quadrant 3H-8 – The fully loaded commercial freighter T.C.S. Brown, its seven-member crew in suspended animation, is making the return run to Earth. In the cargo hold lies Dr. Viktor, also in suspended animation, and the mysterious specimen containers that came on board with him.

Awoken from their slumber to repair the damage caused by a meteor collision, the crew discover to their horror that Dr. Viktor has been killed and one of the mysterious specimens is loose as a result of the damage. It is a life form that will stop at nothing to survive. The seven astronauts have only the tools and resources on board to subdue and kill an organism never before encountered. An organism that evolves quickly into a nearly-unstoppable predator. Now, a simple repair job becomes a desperate struggle for survival.

SPECIMEN is a card-driven two-player board game. Each turn comprises four action rounds, in which each player can perform one of several possible game actions. The Specimen’s movements are hidden from the Crew player behind a game screen, and the Specimen’s location is only revealed when the Specimen attacks…or if the crew is lucky (or unlucky) enough to find it!

As the Crew:
• Search the ship to find the Specimen
• Construct weapons to fight the Specimen
• Consult the ship’s computer for tactical information
• Repair the damaged ship

As the Specimen:
• Build your creature choosing from over 20 different offensive, defensive and special attributes
• Move in secret through the ship
• Stalk the crew and attack out of the shadows
• Destroy the ship by damaging it section by section

•    22″ x 34″ Ship Map
•    90 strategy cards (45 Crew cards, 45 Specimen cards)
•    7 Crew Character Cards
•    25 Specimen Attribute Cards
•    8 dice
•    Over 50 1″ Counters
•    Over 50 1/2″ Counters
•    Specimen Game Screen (to hide Specimen movement)
•    2 Reference Cards
•    8 1″ cardboard pawns and plastic stands
