Star Wars: X-Wing Millennium FalconLet’s be honest, this is the one you’ve been waiting for. Yep, if you’re a Star Wars fan you don’t have to own a copy of the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game, from Fantasy Flight Games, to want to get your hands on this bad boy. That’s right, the Millennium Falcon is about to hit store shelves and FFG has provided a sneak peek at what you can expect. Those of you who made it out to Gen Con last year already saw the production mock up and it is a beaut! It’s time to ask Han and Chewie to step aside as you take the helm of the Falcon!

The Millennium Falcon expansion is expected to hit stores in February and carries an MSRP of $29.95.

From FFG:

“Stand by, Chewie, here we go.”
–Han Solo, Star Wars: A New Hope

Last year, during the development of the second wave of single-starfighter expansions for the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniature Game™, Fantasy Flight Games received our production copy of the pre-painted Millennium Falcon™ miniature. The base game and the first wave of X-Wing starfighters were already set to launch at that time. Still, there was something different, something special, about the first time we set our eyes on the Falcon miniature and tested its heft in our hands.

That’s the beauty of the Millennium Falcon. Han Solo’s modified YT-1300 freighter isn’t just a starship; it’s almost an old friend. So much of our connection to Star Wars is tied to the ship – through scenes set within it and through the characters who pilot it – that the Millennium Falcon isn’t just another starship; it’s also a window into the Star Wars universe. That’s why the Falcon is going to open a lot of eyes to the dramatic dogfights of the X-Wing miniatures game.

Bringing the Falcon to the Table

When they worked on the Falcon, the X-Wing design team knew they had to give the ship a distinguished and exciting presence within the game. A lot of work went into anticipating and shaping the personal experiences that fans would most enjoy. It’s fair to say that with its new rules for unique starfighters, its special modifications, and upgrades that allow you to add co-pilots and gunners, the Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack is deeply customizable and gives players the opportunity to bring to the table the Falcon they want to see.

Unique Starfighters

More than one YT-1300 light freighter exists in the Star Wars galaxy, but there’s only one Millennium Falcon. Whereas the X-wing known as Red Five is simply the X-wing piloted by Luke Skywalker, as opposed to another Rebel pilot, the Millennium Falcon has been outfitted with numerous special modifications that give her an edge other YT-1300s lack. Accordingly, the Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack introduces a title card, Millennium Falcon, that plays only on a YT-1300. For a mere one squad point, the Millennium Falcon upgrade adds the evade action to the attached YT-1300’s action bar.

Special Modifications

Along with title cards, the Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack introduces another new type of upgrade: modifications. Modifications don’t appear in any ship’s upgrade bar, but they can be used to enhance any ship…as long as the modification isn’t restricted to a specific type of ship.

We all know the Millennium Falcon was the ship that made the Kessel Run in under twelve parsecs, so what makes it faster than other YT-1300s? The Millennium Falcon, as interpreted in X-Wing, gains the boost action from its Engine Upgrade modification.

The boost action permits a ship to move and change heading after completing its maneuver.

While the boost action isn’t limited to ships flown by highly skilled pilots, it offers the best pilots a great deal of versatility and reactivity. Because the most skilled pilots maneuver last, they’ll find their foes already in place and can use the boost action to get out of an enemy’s firing arc, slip out of weapon range, or come around for a shot at point blank range. It’s also opens up some wonderfully cinematic moments as you can have Han Solo lead enemy TIEs to an asteroid field, then slip through a tight space with his boost action.

Han Solo coaxes a boost action out of the Millennium Falcon’s Engine Upgrade to slip out of a TIE fighter’s firing arc!

Each starfighter in X-Wing can only carry one modification, so you’ll want to think carefully about how you enhance your Falcon. If you’d rather build your strategy around actions other than the boost, you can choose something like Shield Upgrade, instead. Additional upgrades to its shields can help the Falcon survive multiple barrages of enemy fire.

Upgrades help make the Falcon one of the galaxy’s greatest starships

Crew Members

Where would Han Solo be without his loyal companion and co-pilot, Chewbacca? Without Luke Skywalker’s expert shooting, would the Falcon have escaped the Imperial TIEs that pursued it during its escape from the Death Star? And would Lando Calrissian have succeeded in his assault on the second Death Star without the aid of his co-pilot, Nien Nunb?

Some questions are better left unanswered. The Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack not only allows you to choose from four different pilots, it allows you to play up to two different  upgrades on your YT-1300 and round out your crew.

Crew member upgrades add unique skills and personalities to your ship

Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, and the other heroes of the Rebel Alliance only overcame the Empire by working together, and the Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack gives you the ability to form a combination of such characters that, taken together, may be greater than the sum of its parts.

Prepare for the Jump to Hyperspace!

With all these new rules, plus rules for large ships, a new mission, and, of course, one detailed, pre-painted Millennium Falcon miniature, the Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack is going to bring all-new tactics to the fast-paced, dramatic dogfights of X-Wing!

The Millennium Falcon Expansion Pack is scheduled to arrive in February. In the meantime, keep your eyes open for more information about the upcoming Slave I™, A-Wing™, and TIE Interceptor™ expansions!
