  1. Hey guys. Great podcast. I’m just starting to listen to it again, as I listen during my walk to work and dont always catch everything.

Now, about downloading old magazines. I have no opinion one way or anthor- I will only point out that Stratagey&Tactics is still very much alive and still being published, so if you are downloading those, you are most certainly stepping on some copywritten toes.

And as for the old General Mag, well, I dunno how that copyright works, but its being sold here:

And finally, did I here one of you say you wanted to pick up the old AH games Dune and Merchants of Venus? Why didnt you say that 3 weeks ago, when I was weeding out my game collection? I dumped a copy of Dune off at a local church garage sale. I could have given it to you guys!

    • Oops! my mistake: those General Mags are being offered for Free, while some old Avalon Hill games are being offered as downloadable PDFs.

      • Always a day late and a dollar short. Well Tim, if you run across any other copies let us know. Of course, the odds against it are almost 1,272,373 to 1. Actually, it would be nice if Hasbro/WOTC would just republish them (or whoever has the rights now).

  2. You know, if you are really desperate, I’m pretty sure you can get all the parts for both games off of Boardgamegeek. I’d be a lotta work though; lots of cutting and gluing.

Did I hear you say you will be at Consimworld Expo? Maybe I’ll see you there; I will be hanging around the front with Alan and the VPG guys.

    • Actually, I’ll be heading over to ConSimWorld in the evenings during the week and I should be there for the weekend. Not too difficult to make it over there since I only work about 15 minutes away.

      • A bit closer than me then. For me its 1,500 miles (6 and 1/2 hours by plane) away.

  3. I just listened to this ‘cast, and I thought I would comment on the piracy issue. I personally would not feel bad printing off a copy of Avalon Hill’s Dune (for example) rules / cards / etc, since Hasbro isn’t doing anything with the property, and I really want to play that game.

Having said that, if Hasbro were to reprint or re-imagine the game, I would support them by purchasing that version as well. I really support FFG’s model of bringing back games / licenses that have been out of print (Android: Netrunner, Lord of the Rings Living Card Game, Arkham Horror), giving them a new coat of paint and some new mechanics, and putting them out there. I don’t see why Hasbro doesn’t do the same with some of their better (heck, even some of their lesser-known) Avalon Hill stuff.

    Just my $.02.
