I remember back in the early years of AD&D when the Drow were the big baddies. Who else out there can think back to the time when the giants modules (Steading of the Hill Giant Chief, Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl, and Hall of the Fire Giant King) led into the big finale where your band of adventurers had to go up against the Drow (Descent into the Depths of the Earth, Shrine of the Kuo-Toa, and Vault of the Drow)? I know I sure do! I have to say it seems to me the evil dark elves have taken a bit of a back seat to other races over the past few years, as well as had a bit of their bite taken from them, but that might be about to change.

The Drow are moving back into the spotlight with a couple of upcoming releases. Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue is a new 4th Edition supplement tackling the society of the Drow and an all new Drow Treachery Fortune Cards deck will make appearances in time for this year’s Gen Con!

From Wizards of the Coast:

Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue provides an in-depth exploration of the greatest drow city in the Dungeons & Dragons game and Forgotten Realms campaign setting. It contains all of the information a Dungeon Master needs to run adventures or an entire campaign based in this treacherous city, including descriptions of city locations, drow houses, key organizations, and the precarious political landscape.

It also gives players the information they need to create characters who are members of drow houses or organizations within Menzoberranzan, as well as explains the benefits and rivalries that come with choosing a particular allegiance.
