I share my thoughts about the classic reprint edition of Gary Gygax’s Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh. The book is jam packed with content focused on the fortress town and it’s environs near the famed castle. The volume is broken into three main sections about the setting, the town, and the region while including a series of very useful appendices. While designed for Castles & Crusades, the campaign setting can be used with just about any edition of Dungeons & Dragons up through 3E as well as fantasy retroclone roleplaying games built on D&D/AD&D.

Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh Campaign Setting Reviewed

The Castle Zagyg: Yggsburgh classic reprint edition is absolutely jam packed with content which can easily lead to years of fantasy roleplay adventuring. Sadly, no details about the castle are included - that come in later volumes - but there's plenty regarding the fortress town of Yggsburgh and the surround region to keep players busy for a long time. I will say this is pretty standard high fantasy ala D&D/AD&D fare so it doesn't deviate from the traditional. Also, if you're not a fan of Gary Gygax's work, this isn't going to change your mind. Regardless, I enjoyed reading through the book and would certainly use Yggsburgh in a Castles & Crusades campaign.
