I page through and review the Traveller Starter Set for the Mongoose Publishing second edition of the venerable science fiction roleplaying game. There’s plenty to get excited about with all the gaming goodness packed into this box.

Summary
The starter set is very nicely done and jam packed with gaming material; this isn't a pared down edition of the Traveller rules to get you started but essentially the full system. There's lots to love about Traveller including the fun of character and group creation which is unlike every other RPG out there. Plus, a full campaign is included as opposed to a single introductory adventure. The mechanics are relatively easy to wrap your head around with a few exceptions, Trading is a good example, although I feel the book's presentation could use a bit of work. I did find the rules aren't presented as intuitively as I'd have liked and what actions fall under what skills doesn't always seem logical. Also, while I love the fact each PC should have a unique responsibility during starship combat, the actual space combat feels as if it lacks some excitement. Regardless of my relatively minor critiques, this is an excellent jumping on point for the venerable SF RPG.
