In September, Stronghold announced that its new version of Survive would not include the giant squid that the publisher had proposed for the new version but the whale figure, as was originally included in the classic Parker Brothers edition. They pointed out the giant squid would still be available as a preorder bonus if you got your order in ahead of release. Some copies of the squid were also available at Spiel 2010, where small quantities of the game were made available for sale.
It looked as if scoring a giant squid would be rather difficult for a great many gamers.
Now Stronghold Games has announced that the Survive: The Giant Squid expansion will be available at retail stores on a limited basis. Stronghold’s Kevin Nesbitt stated that any retail store stocking the game would also have access to order the expansion as well. Nesbitt also pointed out that the squid will be available in stores because, in part, preorders were only being taken from North American customers. That left many buyers out of luck; if you lived anywhere else your only option to pick up the squid would have been to travel to this year’s Spiel.
Now everyone will have the option of having their boat either smashed to bits by a whale’s tail or dragged into the murky depths by a giant squid! Wee!
Look for Survive: The Giant Squid to hit store shelves in conjunction with the main game release or just a short time afterward and will retail for $5.95 US.
