From GF9:
Gale Force Nine announced they are publishing a new board game called Tyrants of the Underdark set in the Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms universe from Wizards of the Coast. From the same game design team that brought you Lords of Waterdeep, the new game pits 2 to 4 players against each other to take over territory in the tumultuous Underdark, mashing up deck-building mechanics with board control. Look for Tyrants of the Underdark to be available in Spring 2016.
Designed by Peter Lee and Rodney Thompson, Tyrants of the Underdark is a competitive board game in which you play as a drow house recruiting monsters, cultists and demons to aid you in controlling locations such as Menzoberranzan and Blingdenstone. Using power and influence as resources, Tyrants of the Underdark features multiple strategies you can use in crafting your deck of minions. Be the spymaster infiltrating your enemy’s strongholds or the deadly war-leader concentrating on assassinating enemy troops. No matter how you decide to play, whoever controls most of the Underdark at the end of the game wins, unless there’s some hidden strategy in play.
“We’re always impressed with the creative people who make Dungeons & Dragons, but we were blown away by how compulsively fun Tyrants of the Underdark is to play,” said John-Paul Brisigotti, CEO Battlefront Group. “We think fans both of D&D and board gaming in general will really love it.”
“It’s fun to be the bad guy sometimes, and Tyrants of the Underdark lets you participate in the machinations of drow politics without getting physically stabbed in the back,” said Nathan Stewart, brand director of Dungeons & Dragons. “We’re excited that Gale Force Nine is bringing a game like this to our fans.”
