HBO Reveals ‘Game of Thrones’ Season Six Premiere Date and It’s Later than You Hoped

HBO has announced the premiere date of the eagerly anticipated season six of Game of Thrones and the date falls later in the calendar than any previous season. While GoT has normally returned to the HBO lineup in late March or early April, this season the first episode of the new season won’t air until April 24th. One has the impression the network may have been holding back on the season to allow George R. R. Martin a chance to get his next book in the Song of Ice and Fire series, The Winds of Winter, into stores but it was revealed earlier last weekend Martin is not finished with the novel (no surprise there). The window for getting the novel to the publisher and into the hands of readers, prior to the new season beginning, shut months ago.

While readers will certainly be sorely disappointed by the book delay, those who rabidly devour the show only have to wait a couple weeks longer than usual to begin the Sunday night ritual all over again.
