We’re changing the way in which we present video reviews beginning January 1st, 2016. TGG will now only provide video reviews if the company or individual submitting the item (board game, RPG PDF, movie, or such) is willing to also allow us to provide an additional copy of the reviewed item as a giveaway to our viewers. The reasoning for this is simple: Our video reviews are very time consuming and we aim to produce them as professionally as possible with animated intros and informational lower thirds throughout. Also, The Gaming Gang is one of the most popular table top gaming focused websites – as of this writing we’re on pace to finish with 875k unique visitors and approximately 6.1 million visits overall in 2015 – which does not charge a cent for producing video reviews of anything on the market or about to go on sale. Currently a few gaming sites charge (sometimes hundreds of dollars) to simply look at a game for review, and possibly charge even more if a video is produced. This is not something we will EVER have any interest in doing.
Providing a giveaway copy will help TGG to grow our YouTube branding as well as drive more traffic to the company site too; we’ll work to send viewers to the company website (or Facebook page, or Twitter, etc) in order to enter the contest. In other words, simply sending a freebie to one of our viewers will boost the impact of the review vid and provide much more traffic to the company we’re working with.
Of course, we always welcome items for written and/or podcast reviews and those items aren’t subject to our new video review guidelines.
