Elliott and I were saddened to hear of the passing of Jolly Blackburn’s daughter, Amber, just a few days ago. Jolly is perhaps best known as the creator of the always hysterical Knights of the Dinner Table comic. Those of us who have been gaming for a lot of years also know that Mr. Blackburn was instrumental in the publication of the long defunct (but well remembered and beloved) Shadis magazine as well as the creation of Alderac Entertainment Group. Granted, it’s been a long time since he’s been professionally connected with our good friends at AEG but we know that all of us may not have had the chance to enjoy all the great games our friends John Zinzer, Todd Rowland and the rest of the gang at AEG have put out over the years.
Unfortunately, we’ve never had the pleasure of meeting Jolly and his wife Barbara but they have been mainstays of the convention scene introducing players to the tongue in cheek world of Hackmaster as well as spreading the good humor of KoDT.
Currently there is a benefit auction going on at Board Game Geek that runs through midnight of April 10th. We strongly urge our friends to swing by and take a shot at a multitude of gaming goodness offerings that people are generously contributing to the cause.
