Some Spider-Man fans are taking their dislike of the current storyline (I won’t spoil the ending since the book hits stands next week) to insane levels by sending writer Dan Slott death threats. Slott isn’t taking these threats laying down as Friday he shared these words on Facebook:
“Reality check: There is NO such thing as a ‘funny death threat.’ Especially if you TAG someone on it. If you think, because of something happening to a FICTIONAL character, that you need to type out a death threat and SEND it to someone. You. Need. Help. If you follow my twitter, you know I’ve taken a devilish bit of delight in re-posting these (mainly because they make the OP look like a raving loon–and, for a time, that WAS funny to me.) Well… That’s over. From now on, the ALL get reported. The End.”
Later on Twitter Slott posted:
“Death threats and threats of violence are being reported. Insults and vulgarity are being blocked. Not criticism. Please be civil. Thank you.”
It’s a sad statement on our society that in the wake of such recent tragedies in Portland and Newton idiots take a comic book, yes a f%@&ing comic book, so seriously they feel the need to threaten violence to the author of a story arc they don’t like. One word sums up this situation:
Pathetic.
Here are some words of advice for folks who feel the need to spout hated and espouse violence because of the rage they feel over the developments in a fictional comic book universe: Don’t buy the comics. Simple enough, pass on purchasing the story arc. Then take the money you’ve saved and head over to your local county hospital to get some yourself some help for your mental illness…
