With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story Hits DVD on November 6th

A great documentary about the man, who in my opinion saved comic books in the late 1960s, is coming to DVD next month. With Great Power: The Stan Lee Story is coming from FilmBuff and tells the tale of Stan “The Man” Lee’s rise from obscure poverty to the exalted station of living legend. The film takes you behind the scenes at Marvel during the Silver Age of comics as well as into the creative mind of the creator (or co-creator) of such four color icons as Spider-Man, Captain America, and the X-Men. Much of the story is told in Stan’s very own words and you’ll get to see Lee as never before!

From FilmBuff:

Spider-Man, Thor and Iron Man may be invincible superheroes, but they owe their existence to a man regarded by comic book lovers as an immortal: Stan Lee. The life and work of the beloved writer is now told in WITH GREAT POWER: THE STAN LEE STORY, which will thrill fans of all ages when it arrives on DVD from FilmBuff on November 6, 2012, with an SRP of $24.98.

WITH GREAT POWER: THE STAN LEE STORY explores the vivid life and imagination of Stan Lee, the 89-year-old comic book legend who has co-created more than 500 legendary pop culture characters including Spider-Man, the X-Men, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, Thor and the Hulk.

Featuring interviews with both fans and colleagues including Kevin Smith, Patrick Stewart, Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes, the film is the tale of one man’s determination to tell incredible stories that have enchanted the world for more than 40 years. As a writer and editor Lee is one of the handful of true legends in comics, having co-created hundreds of beloved fantasy characters, many of whom have been brought to the big screen and achieved box-office superstar status. Lee’s work appears in more than 1 billion comics across 75 nations and 25 languages.

WITH GREAT POWER: THE STAN LEE STORY serves as a history of Lee’s wide-ranging achievements, highlighting his earliest transcripts and illustrations to the dawn of Marvel Comics in the early 1960s through today. Also appearing in the film are Sean Astin, Kenneth Branagh, Nicolas Cage, Kirsten Dunst, Lou Ferrigno, Jon Favreau, James Franco, Tobey Maguire and Seth Rogen.

Directed by Terry Dougas (executive producer of Swing Vote and The Box), Nikki Frakes and William Lawrence Hess, the film has received widespread critical acclaim. Moviezone magazine said, “This brilliantly and beautifully crafted documentary is at its heart and soul a love story.” “The story of Stan Lee is the story of comic books themselves,” said Indiewire.com.
