I share my review of the rustic fantasy roleplaying game Through the Hedgerow from Osprey Games. In the game, players take on the roles of mortal and Fay Knights of the Briar Company who battle the forces of the Dark in order to protect the rural shires of the world across time. Through the Hedgerow also looks to introduce some rather unique game mechanics to your table.

The 272 page hardcover arrives in stores on October 1st while the PDF will also be available on that date.

SUMMARY

There is much to recommend about Through the Hedgerow, not the least is the very interesting setting and premise but also a stab at brining some rather unique game mechanics to the table. I find the various character archetypes look to be a lot of fun to play and complement each other well. I'm also intrigued by the time travelling element across the English countryside. I have to same the mechanics are far more in depth than I expected and will take some getting used to. They might even play a bit clunky in execution. Also keep in mind, this is an Osprey Games RPG so we never know what sort of support this will get in the future. Regardless, I can certainly recommend giving the roleplaying game a look if the these and setting strike your fancy.

  1. Thanks for reviewing Through The Hedgerow. I’m in talks with Osprey for a big expansion. There will hopefully be a free Christmas gift for fans of the game. I’ll produce my own support material on drivethrurpg. If anyone is put off by the crunchy mechanics, my indie RPG ‘The Hedgerow Hack’ is a simpler rules set for the same setting
