Rio Grande Games is turning back the clock to step into prehistory for two new titles. The first, Stone Age: Style is the Goal, is an expansion for the popular Stone Age game while the second is an all-new release, Cavemen: The Quest for Fire.

From Rio Grande:

They build their huts and hunt for food during the day. In the evening, our Stone Age inhabitants sit by the fire and share stories of their days. But one notice that something is new and whispers:

“Why do you have a tooth hanging there?”
The answer, “It is a decoration!”
“I want something like that to wear, too!”

In Stone Age: Style is the Goal, a new item emerges: decoration. And with decorations come traders. The players can now trade their resources for decorations. Now, there is a new workplace in the village, new cards, and new huts to expand the world of Stone Age, with room for a 5th player! Stone Age: Style is the Goal is the long anticipated expansion for Stone Age.

Stone Age: Style is the Goal is set for a February release.

Cavemen: The Quest for Fire is a card-drafting game where players take the role of tribal leaders. The tribes compete for opportunities to hunt dinosaurs, recruit tribesmen, and discover new technologies, vying to be the first with enough knowledge and prestige to invent Fire.  It’s easy to learn, supports 2-5 players and has a playing time of about 45 minutes.

The game features 21 different inventions that allow for players to evolve diverse strategies, capitalizing on their tribe’s individual strengths. There are challenging decisions every turn as players must evaluate what resources are available, guess what their opponents will do, and weigh the amount of risk they’re willing to take. Its theme and mechanics are tightly interwoven, delivering a taut and coherent game experience that’s highly competitive without direct antagonism.

Cavemen: the Quest for Fire hits the stores in March.

I’m not sure how cavemen will hunt dinosaurs seeing the dinosaurs were dead millions of years before we began to evolve but, hey, I’m game to give it a try!
