FFG Reprints Knizia’s Kingdoms – Now in Stores

Kingdoms from FFGOriginally published back in 2002, Reiner Knizia’s Kingdoms returns to stores this week sporting detailed plastic castles, streamlined rules, and additional upgrades and enhancements. Players play various kings looking to take the control of the entire kingdom through strategic tile placement in this reprint from Fantasy Flight Games.

From FFG:

Designed by Reiner Knizia (Through the Desert, Colossal Arena), Kingdoms is a fast-paced, strategic board game in which two to four players assume the roles of rival kings trying to increase their wealth by establishing castles across the land. By building castles in the richest regions, you stand to reap the most rewards. But build carefully! The most sought after regions may be infested with dragons, trolls, and other hazards that seek to rob your kingdom of its riches.

As the king, you must build castles in the richest regions possible to increase your wealth. However, the most affluent areas could be infested with dangerous monsters or hazards that may cost your kingdom dearly. Tactically place tiles to counter and block your opponents while positioning yourself to claim victory. Quick to play, yet offering a wealth of strategic challenges, Reiner Knizia’s Kingdoms offers a satisfying and engaging battle of wits, all in roughly half an hour. The land is ripe for the taking, but only the cleverest ruler will spread his kingdom across its vast expanse.

Can you outfox your adversaries and become the richest king, or will dragons, trolls, wizards, or other hazards thwart your plans?

Kingdoms includes:

  • 40 detailed plastic castles
  • 89 tokens, markers, and tiles
  • One game board and one rulebook

Our audience already knows that Knizia isn’t exactly on my list of favorite designers but I’d be interested to see this update from this period of Reiner’s career – where he wasn’t simply cranking out one mind numbingly dull rehash after rehash…
