Originally published in 1986 by West End Games and Games Workshop, Tom Wham’s classic Kings and Things is set to be released by Z-Man Games before the holiday season hits. The game is for 2-4 players of ages 12+ and features warring kingdoms, within a fantasy setting, as well as the multitude of “things” that reside in the realm itself, which the factions can use against each other. Using a modular hex tile system for lay out the kingdom is never the same from game to game and a hidden counter system allows for a lot of bluffing in regards to just what “things” you happen to have in play at any time. I remember playing this a few times in its original incarnation and I can tell you we had a lot of fun!
Keep in mind this isn’t just a rerelease but an all new edition with rules tweaks and changes that will help bring in a playing time of around two hours. I’d say that sounds just about perfect for a visit to the legendary land of Kadab. Plus it looks like the artwork alone and its light hearted tone, make it scream to be on your gaming radar!
From Z-Man Games:
The magical land Kadab – the landscape of which looks different today from what it looks like tomorrow – is in search of a decent heir to the throne who will rule the land with an iron hand. And that could be YOU! It is your aim to expand your barony and to convince the land’s more than 200 inhabitants to fight for your cause. Inevitably, your army will consist of elves, goblins, dwarves, dragons, flying squirrels, dinosaurs, killer penguins, flying buffalos, climbing twines, skeletons, cyclops, knights and numerous other creatures, all of whom have their own special abilities and preferences.
Besides showing leadership skills, you should also be experienced in the art of bribery and have practiced using magical items. If you still manage to pile up sufficient gold to build the only true symbol of power, a citadel, you will be the new ruler of Kadab! But it’s your bad luck that three other nobles like you vie for the same aim and try to dispute your one and only true right to the throne. How ridiculous!
Kings and Things should be hitting shelves sometime in November, according to the latest word, and will retail at $70.00 U.S.
