Well, I’m rollin’ the dice here as to our first Kickstarter project: Helping to cover the costs of a portion of the conventions we’re been invited to cover throughout the remainder of 2013. Yes, The Gaming Gang 2013 Convention Coverage Project is now live so I get to spend the next few weeks fretting about how in the world I can make this a success.
As I pointed out on the project page my attitude has always been The Gaming Gang would be a self sustaining website, as I’ve never been a fan of visiting websites which seemingly always hammer you in order to open your wallet to keep them afloat, and that mindset remains in place to this day. In less than three years we’ve grown from just a site launched on a lark between two friends to someplace a lot of people consider to be a destination site for the latest in gaming and genre news. During this period I’ve continued to operate the website with the core values as I had back in 2010 – we pay our own way and welcome anyone to swing by and check us out. With that said, we’ve been invited to tackle a truckload of upcoming cons and shows we’d love to provide people who can’t attend our patented style of access behind the scenes and, after sitting down and doing the math of what it would take to do so, felt the only way to possibly even get remotely close was to put the fate of our 2013 convention coverage in your hands.
I don’t have any misconception that TGG is any bigger than what it is and we’re an acquired taste to say the least. Thus why I’ll take a stab I am the worst at shameless self promotion…
Yet our project is only to help pay the cost of attending a baker’s dozen (at least) of cons and shows which I believe will be of interest to our audience. Or, in other words, our project isn’t asking you to pay for our website hosting, buying new recording or video equipment, shelling out for upgrades to what we already have in place, or anything of the like. Nor was it structured as anything but taking a bare bones figure as to the costs of travel and motels since we’re still going to fund as much as we can ourselves and I don’t expect anyone to “pay” us to go out to these events!
I have to mention this launched as a bit of a spur of the moment sort of thing and I apologize some of the rewards from our friends in the industry are no doubt going to added after we go live but, to try and make sure everything clears through Amazon prior to the heart of the season, I had to go live a bit before I’d have liked. Keep in mind supporters who pledge early will get all the rewards which are added after launch!
So rather than ramble on – I’m sure I’ll do enough of that as the project goes on – let’s get the party started!
