Stygian Fox Publishing, purveyors of fine Call of Cthulhu RPG supplements, has a new adventure anthology up for crowdfunding on Kickstarter. Hudson & Brand: Shadows of the Past is set in gaslight London and builds upon the previous sourcebook Hudson & Brand: Inquiry Agents of the Obscure by providing a trio of horrific tales for Victorian era investigators to tackle. The project is nearing 400% funding and you can reserve a copy of the 150 page PDF adventure supplement (and stretch goals) for a $19.00 pledge or grab the physical releases, in softcover, for a $32.00 pledge. The project runs through March 1 with expected delivery on the digital items of January 2020 and the physical books February of next year.
I have to say, although I haven’t had a chance to check out Hudson & Brand: Inquiry Agents of the Obscure, Stygian Fox’s previous release The Things We Leave Behind is excellent and you can check out my review here.
From Stygian Fox:
Hudson & Brand: Shadows of the Past presents a trio of linked scenarios, set in Victorian London, where players of the Call of Cthulhu roleplaying game (published by Chaosium, Inc), must thwart an ancient cult that seeks vengeance against the Empire for its activities in Africa. While this anthology collection builds upon the setting established in Hudson & Brand: Inquiry Agents of the Obscure, it stands on its own and the first book is not needed for these scenarios to be enjoyed.
The 150-page, main book will contain three scenarios, scenario seeds based on the events and NPCs introduced in each scenario, and their impact on the historical record. All Maps, Handouts, and NPCs will be included in appendices in the book/PDF for easy reference and printing. Ten Pre-Generated Player Characters will also be included in an appendix.
Taking inspirational cues from Sherlock Holmes, Ripper Street, Auguste Dupin, The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher, and The Incendiary’s Trail, the book takes a mature look at the horror of Mythos machinations and the many dark corners in the seat of empire.
Funds for this Kickstarter will go towards commissioning more art and the hiring of more writers and creatives of quality to expand the book. The funds will also go towards printing and distribution.
