Stringamajig Arrives This April from Fireside Games

Stringamajig (Fireside Games)This Spring will see a new party game arriving from Fireside Games. In Stringamajig, players will attempt to configure a piece of string to represent word clues which the other players will need to try to guess. The game is for four to ten players, ages 13+, plays in around 20 minutes, and will carry an MSRP of $19.95 when it arrives in April.

From Fireside:

Fireside Games is excited to announce that they will release Stringamajig this April. Stringamajig is a party game that’s part drawing and part charades with a string. Each player is given 60 seconds to draw a shape with a loop of string, move it around, and interact with it, trying to help other players guess that word and as many other words in the time allotted.

Selecting the words to draw is constrained by the numbers on the back of the next card on the top of the deck. Sometimes the person drawing will be able to choose from among all 4 words on their card, sometimes between just 2 words, and other times the game decides which word must be drawn.

When the drawer is ready, they flip the sand timer, grab the string, and start drawing. They can make any kind of drawing and then start interacting with it, such as strumming a guitar, moving the tentacles on an octopus, and twirling the rotors on a helicopter. The drawer can’t make any noise, and part of the string has to remain touching the table while they animate their drawing. Otherwise, the drawer can get crazy with it. The game really shines with the creative drawings and funny interactions with the string.

The other players call out their ideas and when a player guesses the word correctly, they are given the card, and the drawer quickly moves on to their next drawing.

When time is up, the drawer gets a point for each word that was guessed correctly, and each player scores 1 point for each correct guess they made.

There are also 3 types of Challenge Words in the game that are harder to draw, but worth 2 points if guessed.

  • 2-Player: Make the drawing in the air with another player.
  • Don’t Look: Draw with your eyes closed.
  • Forbidden Word: Guessing a certain word costs a card.
  • After everyone has had 2 turns as the drawer (or 1 turn in a 7+ player game), the game is over and the player with the most points wins.

Stringamajig is a great way to introduce new players to the hobby and provide experienced players with a creative challenge between heavier games.
