The stand alone expansion for Days of Wonder’s Small World should be on store shelves as I type.
It’s time to dive into the underworld to battle over new areas and take on all new races in Small World Underground.
From Days of Wonder:
Welcome to the Underground! Small World Underground is a new stand-alone game set beneath the surface of the same fun, light-hearted Small World universe of epic conquests and fallen empires. Designed by original Small World author, Philippe Keyaerts, it features all new Races and Special Powers, and introduces Monster occupied regions that protect Relics and Places of great power! Small World Underground includes all new subterranean maps featuring new terrain types and geographical challenges.
While Small World Underground is a complete game that can be played on its own, you can also combine the game with many Small World game elements from the original version or expansions. Experienced Small World players will find that venturing beneath the surface makes the game more tactical than ever!
Will lightning strike twice for Days of Wonder?
We shall see!

Days of Wonder organized a series of preview events for Underground across the US and Canada. My local store was fortunate to be included among those hosting the previews.
Underground‘s pretty good. The rules are the same, but there are sufficient differences and new elements in comparison to the original Small World, especially relics and places of power, that I think there’s something there to entertain the game’s big fans. I actually like the aesthetics more than the overworld version, too.
I know Elliott has a copy so I’ll be looking forward to his review in the not too distant future! I thought Small World was fun but I didn’t get the “game of the year” buzz that so many people gave it. All in all worth a purchase though!
I always love hearing when people get a chance to preview a game at their local stores! Sounds like you had a good time Tyler!
