National Comics which, interestingly enough was the official name for DC Comics from the 1940s through the official adoption of the DC moniker in 1977, is making a comeback of sorts. Beginning in July, DC will release one shot titles featuring semi-obscure characters Kid Eternity, Madame X, Rose and Thorn, and Looker. National Comics was also a series released by Quality Comics, who prior to being acquired by DC in 1956, included characters such as Blackhawk, Plastic Man, The Spirit, Uncle Sam, and Quicksilver (renamed as Max Mercury) in their stable.
The first issue of the expanded length National Comics will feature Kid Eternity, written by Eisner Award nominee Jeff Lemire with art by Cully Hamner.
On a side note… Looking at the cover of National Comics number one (from 1940) wouldn’t you think Uncle Sam could find someone other than what appears to be a five year old boy to help put the kibosh on evil doers?
