Gravel Movie Finds Director

Special effects wunderkind, Tim Miller, has been signed by Legendary Pictures to direct an adaptation of the Avatar Press series Gravel. Gravel, created by legendary comic writer Warren Ellis, was optioned back in 2009 and is the story of Mike Gravel, a British S.A.S. soldier who is a member of an elite unit who moonlights as a arcane sorcery wielding defender of humanity facing diabolical supernatural forces. Ellis first introduced the character in a 1999 limited series of graphic novels, Strange Kiss.

As the co-founder of Blur Studio, Miller has produced loads of visual footage for video games and is currently set to direct a Fox treatment of Marvel comics’ Deadpool. Miller is also in the process of creating an animated adaptation of Eric Powell’s The Goon. On a side note, if you haven’t seen the two test videos of The Goon (featuring the voices of Clancy Brown and Paul Giamatti) you really have to scope those out! I love The Goon and it looks as if this could really be something special if it gets off the ground. I’ll have more about that film later.
According to the website Deadline, Miller will direct Gravel from a script written by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell.
