I have to say I grew up watching a ton of John Carpenter movies. From Halloween, to Escape From New York, to The Thing, to In the Mouth of Madness it was rare occurrence for me to miss out on a Carpenter flick. One thing which always stood out for me about Carpenter’s films, regardless of the subject, was their musical scores. I’m sure I’m not alone either as the opening music to the hit Stranger Things series was obviously an homage to Carpenter’s distinct 1970s/1980s electronic sound.
Now John Carpenter is teaming with son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies to record an all new album of his greatest themes; the trio had previously worked together on two albums of the elder Carpenter’s non-film compositions. The greatest hits – currently available for preorder and entitled Anthology: Movie Themes 1974 – 1998 – will be released through Sacred Bones Records on standard LP, limited edition LPs, CD, and through digital download on October 20th. Of special note on the track list is the inclusion of the theme from The Thing which was actually scored by famed composer Ennio Morricone. The Carpenters (no not THOSE Carpenters silly) will even be setting off on a fourteen city tour, which even includes Halloween night in L.A.!
