Following a successful crowdfunding run, Brotherwise Games will be releasing the puzzle-style game Castles by the Sea this summer. In the game, players will build sandcastles and populate them with wee folk known as “shorelings.” Castles By the Sea is for one to four players, ages 12+, plays in 30 to 60 minutes, and will carry an MSRP of $54.95 when it arrives in August.
About the game:
Castles by the Sea takes place in a magical world hidden in plain sight! As a kingdom of Shorelings, your goal is to build and populate sandcastles. Find the perfect placement for your sand blocks and meeples, but beware of looming Hazards. This cleverly designed game combines puzzly spatial play with a delightful theme. Fans of games like Santorini and Tiny Towns will enjoy the challenge of optimizing their 3D castle-building on a shared grid.
Castles by the Sea is a puzzly sandcastle-building game for 1-4 players. As a group of tiny folk called “shorelings,” your goal is to build and populate a seaside kingdom.
Each turn, you’ll place blocks and meeples on the map to earn victory points. The core gameplay is similar to abstract strategy games like Santorini, in that players must optimize three-dimensional placement on a shared grid.
Hazards are the only source of randomness in the game, and even those depend on player choices. Each turn, you must choose your placement carefully, optimizing your score while interfering with your opponents’ plans.
The game ends after a set number of turns. Few castles will remain standing after a final onslaught of hazards, but the the kingdom with the most sand dollars can claim victory.
