Cosmere Roleplaying Game Passes $7 million in Kickstarter Funding

Brandon Sanderson has teamed with Brotherwise Games to Kickstart the Cosmere Roleplaying Game. The game will launch with the Stormlight world as the initial game setting but will eventually expand to include Mistborn and other Sanderson worlds. The project has passed $7 million in funding and you can score five hardcovers, dice, and more for a $195.00 pledge through August 29th. Expected delivery is September 2025.

About the Kickstarter:

In 2023, Dragonsteel Entertainment and Brotherwise Games announced the Stormlight tabletop roleplaying game, set in the acclaimed epic fantasy world of the Stormlight Archive. But there’s always another secret, and Stormlight was just the beginning…

The Cosmere Roleplaying Game is a new system that encompasses the entire universe of Brandon Sanderson’s best-selling novels. This original RPG launches in 2025 with the Stormlight World Guide, Stormlight Handbook, and Stormlight Stonewalkers Adventure. It expands to include Mistborn in 2026, with a steady rollout of new worlds and adventures for years to come!

This is a living RPG that will grow as Brandon Sanderson expands the universe of Cosmere novels, designed to tell standalone stories in each setting or sweeping Worldhopper campaigns that move between different planets.

For Readers: Every release in the Cosmere RPG will expand on existing lore with new canonical content. In particular, the Stormlight World Guide and Mistborn World Guide are richly illustrated books, packed with information on the history and cultures of their worlds, designed to be enjoyed by any fan. Each doubles as the first-ever official art books for these worlds!

For RPG Players: This unique system was designed by an all-star roster of experienced RPG professionals including Andrew Fischer (Star Wars: Edge of the Empire), Lydia Suen (Legend of the Five Rings), Max Brooke (Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay), and Laura Hirsbrunner (Dungeons & Dragons). It combines a core of d20-based mechanics with purpose-built innovations including talent trees, skill-based magic, and the “plot die.”

Even if you aren’t familiar with Brandon Sanderson’s books, this is a chance to experience his renowned worldbuilding and magic systems with two incredibly unique settings. We designed each release to be accessible to new fans, and hope for many people to experience the cosmere for the first time through the Cosmere RPG!
