I must admit, while I don’t necessarily agree with the Games Workshop business model, I can’t argue GW doesn’t have a couple of mighty cool game world settings. I recall owning the first edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (long before the move to Fantasy Flight Games) and was mighty impressed with the world building behind the system. It’s been a few years since FFG published any new and notable WFRP content and, seeing the licensing ended last year and Fantasy Flight discontinued all WFRP products in February, folks might have expected the system to float in limbo for a while. Fans of the RPG should be very happy to learn our friends at Cubicle 7 have entered into a deal with GW to produce an all new edition of WFRP and release will be much sooner than you think too.
We don’t have much of a press release but it’s apparent the new edition will draw more from pre-FFG editions rather than the most recent incarnation. The announcement indicates a corebook release this year, although I’d guess it’s probably too much to hope for physical copies to be available at Gen Con. You never know though…
From Cubicle 7:
A new edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay will be launched by Cubicle 7 Entertainment later this year. The new edition will return players to Warhammer’s grim world of perilous adventure, and takes its direction from the first and second editions of the game.
Cubicle 7 CEO Dominic McDowall said, “Like so many gamers I grew up on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. It’s an iconic setting and I’m thrilled to be working on this new edition of the game. Our team have a huge breadth of experience with Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, and I’m excited to be able to bring the Cubicle 7 approach to the Old World. We’ll be revealing more of our plans in the coming months, so subscribe to our newsletter and keep an eye on our website!”
