I share my thoughts about the the Dungeons & Dragons 2024 (or as I’m going to call it from here on out, D&D 5.5) Player’s Handbook. I received this volume at the Dungeons & Dragons 50th Anniversary celebration July 31st. The book was available at Gen Con but now will hit stores on September 17th.

Is this a great update to 5E and also perfect for introducing newcomers to the game? Or will this turn out to be to much hype and not enough revamp? You’ll find out!

SUMMARY

I like the presentation in this revamped Player's Handbook for D&D. I appreciate the book staring out with how to play rather than tossing you into character creation. It also appears there have been a lot tweaked including the classes, species, and especially the magic spells. There are still issues which seem to just be inherent to modern D&D which are still present plus the art isn't the most inspiring around. Even though D&D isn't my go to fantasy roleplaying system, this is a very well done volume and perfect for introducing newcomers to the game.
