Foxmind Games has announced that the well received Euro, Fauna, is going to now be available for those of us who read and speak the Queen’s English. It seems as if everyone else around the world has had a shot at playing and now it’s our turn!
From Foxmind:
Nominated for the Spiel des Jahres (the Game of the Year in Germany) in 2009, Fauna has been translated into many languages, including French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Norwegian, Finnish and now, the English version for both the US and Canadian markets is available. It’s no surprise that this beautiful game about animals from around the world is getting to be so popular, so quickly. The designer, Friedemann Friese, has succeeded with panache to create a trivia game where betting and guessing are more involved than pure knowledge. In Fauna, you don’t need to know much about animals, you just need to be shrewd and bet for your answers. Of course, Fauna will help you learn interesting facts, but most of all, you will enjoy quality time with the whole family.
HOW TO PLAY?
The rules of the game are simple. Pick a card, let’s say the Panda, and indicate, by placing your betting markers on the board, where it lives, its weight or size. You are not sure? Don’t worry! Simply
make an educated guess and if close enough you score points too. The panda card is too easy for you? Pick a black card and the challenge will be increased with the Babirusa, the Kitti’s Hog-Nosed Bat or maybe the Sunda Slow Loris… Whatever you choose to play, the black or the easier green cards, you will learn about a dozen new and interesting animals each game. With a total of 360 animals included in the game, you should have enough to last you a lifetime since chances are you are not going to remember them all. Stated another way – this game has an excellent replay value.
Moreover, this new edition of Fauna has something special to keep everyone happy: the Americans, the Canadians and even the International Committee for Weights and Measures. In effect, the
English board of Fauna is double-sided. On one side, you can find imperial units and on the other, the metric units. So guess the height of the giraffe in feet or in meters, as you wish. To sum it all up, you can play Fauna with up to 6 players, so gather your family and friends around for a fun-filled evening altogether!
