Gary Gygax’s Castle Zagyg Volumes #1-3 is Up for Crowdfunding for Troll Lord Games

The first three boxed sets for Gary Gygax’s Castle Zagyg as up for crowdfunding for Troll Lord Games. These three Castles & Crusades volumes will feature the town of Yggsburgh, its suburbs, the castle ruins, as well as the first levels of the dungeon. You can reserve copies of all three boxed sets (with PDFs) for a $230.00, just the boxed sets for a $180.00 pledge or score the PDFs alone for an $80.00 pledge on BackerKit through April 4th.

About the project:

For the first time ever, Troll Lord Games is bringing Castle Zagyg to life in its entirety, exactly as Gary Gygax envisioned it. We are meticulously crafting decades of notes, maps, and designs from the Father of Roleplaying into a definitive, groundbreaking TTRPG sand box for tabletop gamers everywhere.
With an incredible team led by Mike Stewart and joined by Luke Gygax, Jason Vey, and more, we are rebuilding Castle Zagyg over the course of two crowdfunding campaigns.

Here’s what to expect from our first campaign:

We are publishing three hardcover volumes; each will come in its own box set, which will contain all the relevant maps needed for seamless gameplay. In accordance with Gary Gygax’s wishes, we are publishing Castle Zagyg using the Castles & Crusades® Role Playing Game. Castles and Crusades is a fast-paced, story-driven fantasy TTRPG that’s accessible to gamers of all ages and experience levels!

Vol I. The Citadel:

The Citadel is a complete setting guide for the town of Yggsburgh and the Outs neighborhood. It contains hundreds of hours of adventuring content and can be easily ported to any other fantasy campaign setting.

Vol II. The Ruins:

The Ruins consists of the Mouths of Madness, the ruins of the castle precincts, the wall towers, the castle fortress, the first level of the dungeon, and the surrounding East Mark region! Vicious monsters, conniving hordes of scavengers, and traps of the most nefarious kind can be found around every corner; in The Ruins, you’re free to begin your dungeon crawl or seek out adventure under the open sky.

Vol. III. The Cellars:

In The Cellars, you will hear the haunted beckoning of Dungeon levels 2-5, as well as their respective sub-levels: this totals 7 dungeon levels for your party to explore. It’s the dungeon crawl to end all dungeon crawls, and it just scratches the surface of what we have planned for the Castle Zagyg series.

It seems like a lot, doesn’t it? Indeed it was 7 years ago now, but I remember backing the huge Rappan Athuk book from Frog God Games for $45 to get the PDF version. For this, they’re asking $80 just for the PDFs. And somehow think it makes sense to ask an absurd price if you’d like both the PDF and the physical book. Most other projects, like my example above, deliver the PDF for free with a physical pledge.

    And this is Part 1!
