Q4 2018 Brings ‘Monolith Arena’ from Portal Games

Monolith Arena (Portal Games)I certainly expect a Portal Games title which will be hotly anticipated late this year will be Monolith Arena. Based on the same game engine as the extremely popular Nuroshima Hex, Monolith Arena will pit up to four factions in a fantasy fighting free for all. Each side will field unique units as well as massively powerful monoliths in a battle for supremacy. Info about the new game is pretty slim but it will be for two to four players, ages 10+, plays in 45-60 minutes, and will arrive in October at Spiel Essen.

From Portal:

Wage war against opponents on a hexagonal board. Prepare your armies to face off on the battlefield and surprise your enemy with your choice of special abilities!

Monolith Arena is a fantasy battleground board game built around the base engine of Neuroshima Hex, which is also from designer Michał Oracz. The game includes five factions, with unique abilities and units! Each player has a monolith that serves as their headquarters, and each player seeds their monolith with three tokens that provide special abilities. When an opponent damages your monolith, you remove the top layer to expose the first token, gaining its special ability, so being attacked can actually make you stronger — albeit while still moving you toward defeat…

The game includes different factions, all of which have an arsenal of unique abilities and units at their disposal. Each player also have a Monolith, serving as a faction headquarters. It is an object of great, hidden power, that the player can invoke during the game to surprise his or her enemy! Monolith Arena is a fast paced, hex-based tactical board game, that offers much replay ability. Delve deep into the fantasy battlegrounds and face off with up to 3 enemies at once!
