Tony and I had been talking about the Homeworld series back at SDCC and I’m happy to report it has just been announced Gearbox Software will be developing an all new addition to the series, Homeworld: Shipbreakers. The Pax Prime announcement came following word in July the company was in the midst of designing HD editions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2. Although originally released by long defunct Sierra Online, the Homeworld franchise had been owned by THQ until April of this year when Gearbox acquired the rights.
Although we can expect the HD editions of the first two games in the first half of 2014, no word yet on when we might expect the third title in the series to arrive nor any specific details about the game. Homeworld: Shipbreakers is being developed in cooperation with Blackbird Interactive.
I have to say I’m excited because the Homeworld series was some of the most engrossing real time strategy games I’d ever played – if a little too scripted sometimes.
Here’s a teaser from Blackbird when the working title was Hardware: Shipbreakers…
