After years of trying to put together a third installment of the Ghostbusters franchise featuring the original cast (Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Harold Ramis), Sony moved on in a different direction with the August hiring of Paul Feig to direct a film featuring an all new, all female team. Today it was announced Feig’s fellow The Heat writing partner Katie Dippold has joined the project as co-writer in order to provide the Ghostbusters characters with a stronger comedic female voice.
Along with The Heat, Dippold has written for Parks and Recreation as well as MadTV.
Previous indications were the third film would be a passing of the baton but indications now are the Ghostbusters film won’t build on the previous two and the upcoming film will be a complete reboot for the series. Could we see the likes of Kirsten Wiig, Mellissa McCarthy, or Sandra Bullock donning a Ghostbusters uniform soon? I’ll take a stab it’s a safe bet McCarthy will soon be attached to the film.
