One wouldn’t think AMC would be quick to bring a third zombie series to their network but during an interview, to promote the Marvel comic Empire of the Dead, cover artist Arthur Suydam revealed the property has been picked up by the home of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead. George Romero’s series, which builds upon the landscape laid out in the filmmaker’s Living Dead films, was rumored to be headed to a television deal earlier this year.
We already know AMC has been quite friendly recently to transitioning comic books to tv with TWD, as well as the upcoming Preacher, so it isn’t strange to hear the network going back to the well for a new series. What is rather unusual is the possibility the cable network will air a trio of shows featuring the undead. What makes Empire of the Dead a different beast is the inclusion of vampires into the mix as the comic focuses on a group of survivors taking on zombies and bloodsuckers in Manhattan.
So the question now becomes will viewers be excited to see another zombie-centric show on cable? Or could this be a bit of overkill from AMC?
