Catching Fire, the second book in The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins, is set to begin filming later this Summer and Francis Lawrence is now onboard to direct. Lawrence is most likely best known for directing the film adaptation of Sarah Grueden’s Water for Elephants, which starred Reese Witherspoon and Robert Patterson. The Hunger Games director, Gary Ross, supposedly stepped down from helming Catching Fire due to the aggressive shooting schedule demanded by Lionsgate’s to meet a proposed November 2013 release date.
It’s also being reported the principle cast members, headed by Jennifer Lawrence (no relation to the new director), are slated to return for the sequel to the $600 million plus blockbuster.
About Catching Fire from Scholastic Books:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. Suzanne Collins continues the amazing story of Katniss Everdeen in Catching Fire, the second novel of the phenomenal Hunger Games trilogy.
