The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro’s The Strain is going forward with a full thirteen episode order from FX. The Strain has been told in novel and comic form (from Dark Horse Comics) up this point and it looks like FX is interested in cashing in on the same audience which has made AMC’s The Walking Dead a massive hit. Don’t worry, the subject of the series won’t be zombies but rather vampires – and very unfriendly vampires at that!
From THR:
The Strain is moving forward at FX. The cable network announced Tuesday that it has ordered a 13-episode freshman season of the vampire drama, which comes from Guillermo del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse. The series, based on del Toro and Hogan’s book trilogy of the same name, is set to premiere in July 2014 — with Cuse serving as showrunner.
“The Strain books are near and dear to my heart and now, Chuck and I have the blessing of a partnership with Carlton and FX that holds great promise,” del Toro said. “Working with FX has yielded an amazing experience with total creative freedom and support.”
FX Networks president and GM John Landgraf told reporters in March that The Strain, which was then prepping to film its pilot, already had assembled a writing staff and picked up additional scripts — a strong sign the pilot would earn a series order.
