I provide my thoughts about Votes for Women from designer Tory Brown and Fort Circle Games. The game tackles the women’s suffrage movement of the mid 1800s through early 1900s in the United States. Votes for Women is for one or four players, ages 12+, plays in around 60 to 75 minutes, and carries an MSRP of $75.00. Should you be casting your ballot for this card driven, historical game? Or will you be better served vetoing a purchase of Votes for Women? You’ll find out.

Votes for Women | Review and How to Play

I certainly like Votes for Women quite a lot as I happen to be a big fan of card driven, historical games. The rules are clearly presented and there's good amount of options the suffrage and anti-suffrage player can take in a given turn. I also feel the addition of the replica documents in the box to be a nice touch too. Where I have a bit of a problem is the balancing between the two factions; after repeated plays, it really comes across as the anti-suffrage faction being behind the eight ball nearly all the time. In other words, the gameplay is skewed in favor of the suffrage movement quite a lot. Suffrage was a foregone, eventual conclusion in the U.S. anyway, so I can see the game leaning in that direction, but it's the balancing and replayablity of the game which suffer for it. Still, a very good game I can highly recommend, even with the balancing issue.
