I just wanted to let folks know yesterday morning I received an email from Elliott informing me he was quitting TGG effective immediately. For the most part this is due to the fact I can be a pretty stern taskmaster when it comes to how we present information and go about things here at the site. I can understand as already having one job and boss, Elliott surely doesn’t need another. I’ll guess the responsibilities of job and family also in some way (albeit probably a small way) attribute to his leaving and he did mention taking part in the site and show just weren’t as fun as they had once been.

Hopefully our visitors appreciate the nearly two and a half years of time and energy Elliott devoted to the website, podcast, and videos.

So what does this mean for the future of The Gaming Gang?

As with almost all things, time brings about change. The change can be good or ill (or just different) so the key is how you approach that change. Overall there won’t be much radically different around here outside of the podcast being on hold for the moment; I may or may not see if anyone out there would like to take on co-hosting duties but I’m up in the air about that right now. Or the whole podcast format might change in the near future. The “extras” will continue with interviews and such so that remains the same.

One aspect of the site which will change by putting a hold on the podcast will be an increase in the amount of video you’ll see. Recording and editing the podcast normally took a good twelve hours or more every time out; around three hours of recording and then around eight hours to edit down to a manageable hour and half to two hours. Yes, I’m sure some folks are thinking I could have edited much more out of the shows as we’d do quite a bit of sightseeing along the way to getting to the news and reviews but that sightseeing is usually what provided a lot of the laughs. In that same twelve hours though I can easily shoot and edit six or seven unboxing videos with possibly a review or two or some other piece thrown in for good measure.

All in all the old adage “the more things change, the more they stay the same” comes to mind with Elliott’s departure as the main content of the website won’t be any different from what visitors have come to expect. From the beginning I’ve had a clear vision of what I want this website to be and to represent so Elliott might be moving on but TGG continues onward and upward!

    • Yes TGG will certainly live and you might be surprised at just how much life the old site still has and what’s on the horizon! 😉

  4. I’ve really enjoyed 52 podcasts you guys did. The dynamic you guys have is great. Hope the decision isn’t permanent

Good luck, Elliott on whatever your next thing is.

    • Oh, from the way Elliott made it out, it’ll be permanent. You know me personally Luis, so you know what a monstrous tyrant I am! I can barely stay in the same room as myself…

  5. You two had great rapport, and Elliott will be missed.

To echo John’s comment above, TGG is a valuable hobby resource and please let us know if there’s anything we can do to support the site and your future efforts, Jeff.

    • Thanks Steve! I do want to mention to everyone Elliott just quit, he didn’t die so it’s possible he’ll take a break, recharge his batteries, and pop up somewhere else with his own website and podcast which will put TGG to shame. Ya never know…

As for Steve and everyone elses’ support it is certainly appreciated (in ways you’ll never know) and I promise very little about the site is going to change. Sure the podcast will be different, or might not even exist, but I’m committed to the long haul as far as TGG!

I’ll miss the podcast and the banter, reminisces and good humor, always entertaining and of course the excellent game reviews and discussions. Thanks for all your hard work.

  8. I’ve got to say as a long time listener I’m going to miss Elliott on the show too but, and I’m sure some people will disagree, he really was “the other guy” as they would joke about on the show. I’m pretty sure we all know who’s behind the wheel of The Gaming Gang. I’ve never worked for Jeff or contributed to the site but the guy can’t be all that bad if he’s the person making sure we get a quality site to visit every day. I stop by here everyday religiously and it seems the past six months or so most of the stuff I read was coming from Jeff or other people like his brother Greg, and new contributors. Outside of what he’d already talked about on the last show with his news or reviews I don’t recall reading a lot of Elliott’s stuff.

Sure the podcast is a lot of fun but I was critical about this in the past I don’t think Elliott really knows too much about games and was more of an Ed McMahon to Jeff’s Johnny Carson. Maybe I heard the shows differently than anyone else but it seems like Jeff always drives the conversation. I think whoever comes on as the new cohost could probably fill Elliott’s shoes pretty easily. Sure it might not be as funny and we may not get the same reminicing about the hobby but for all we know the show could be even better! I for one am interested to hear what the new show will be like and as long as people give the new person a chance I think a year from now we could very well be asking “Elliott who?”
