What kind of game is Adventurous?
Adventurous is a rules-light and streamlined fantasy game in the OSR vein. It uses a D6 Dicepool core mechanic that handles everything from combat to jumping across a chasm. Adventurous is built for speed and ease of use, but still offers the eight iconic classes, each with unique abilities and features. Whether you’re coming from modern TTRPGs (like D&D 5e), old-school games, or video games, Adventurous will feel familiar.

- D6 Dice pool core mechanic – The core mechanic of Adventurous, which is used in all situations where the player characters interact with the world, is a dice pool of six-sides dice.
- Built fom the ground up – Adventurous is not built on legacy systems and mechanics. Instead it’s built based on feedback and input from players, novice to the TTRPG hobby, to make sure it’s all intuitive and easy to grasp.
- Player facing rolls – All rolls in Adventurous are made by the players. In combat, the player characters roll to hit and then roll to defend the opponent’s attacks. This keeps the spotlight on the players and removes strain on the Game Master.
- Low power progression – As the player characters level up, they won’t grow vastly more powerful, instead they will grow “horizontaly” gaining new abilities instead of just increasing in power.
- Fast character creation – Creating a character in Adventurous doesn’t take more than 10-15 minutes.
- Slot based inventory – No need to track weight, encumbrance is handled by inventory slots.
- Unique monster design – Monsters in Adventurous use a random attack mechanic, meaning that both GM and players will be surprised at the tactics employed by monsters.
- Deadly – Adventurous is a lethal game, a goblin will always pose a threat, at first level and max level.
- Iconic classes you will recognize – Adventurous is not trying to break new, novel ground when it comes to classes. Instead they are the eight iconic ones you’ve come to expect, and with abilities and features that let you live out your class fantasy.
- Dungeon exploration procedure – The procedure and mechanics for dungeon exploration makes it easy for the GM to track time, and adds a layer of time pressure and uncertainty for the exploring adventurers.
