A few months back we talked about a game in development called Empires of the Void from Ryan Laukat. Ryan has formed Red Raven Games and Empires of the Void is up for backing on Kickstarter through November 27th.
Empires is a space empire/conquest game in which 2-4 player’s battle for control over the galaxy. The board is modular so game play is different each time. A random event deck also ensures variations in game play.
The Kickstarter project describes it:
“Empires of the Void is an epic, space empire-building game playable in two hours. The game is for 2 to 4 players and has an intuitive, yet flexible rule system that allows for many different strategies. Players can win by conquering planets, using diplomacy, researching technology, or focusing on ruling the galactic council. Feel like ruling every planet you encounter with an iron fist? Want to outsmart your opponents with sneaky, underhanded maneuvers they don’t expect? Or perhaps you desire superior technology so you can outgun the competition. It’s all possible in the game.
Empires of the Void has a heavy emphasis on theme and story. Each round starts with a random event to enhance the flavor of the setting. The game comes with seven starting alien races to choose from, each with unique abilities and play styles. There are also fifteen additional neutral aliens to conquer or befriend, each with unique abilities and strengths. The variable board comes in seven hexagonal pieces, so each game will be a different experience.”
It looks interesting, and I’m always on the lookout for a new sci-fi themed game. Backers of the Kickstarter project will receive an extra alien race, for a total of 8 races to pick from when playing Empires of the Void.
