The BBC has decided it will not renew the fantasy horror series, The Fades, which aired it’s first season on BBC Three and BBC America here in the U.S. The series focused on a troubled teen named Paul (portrayed by Iain de Caestecker), who discovers he possesses the special powers of the “Angelics” who can see spirits of the dead. These spirits, known as Fades, are killing the living in an attempt to return to life – or a sort of life actually.
The announcement was low key, to say the least, as it first broke on The Fade’s Facebook page with, “We’re sorry to announce The Fades won’t be returning for another season. Thanks for all your messages. You’ve been the best fans!”
Rumors are floating around that the series wasn’t renewed due to the fact BBC Three is in the midst of a budget crunch and the cost of producing The Fades didn’t fit in with the newly restructured budget. The fact is The Fades won’t be on the BBC but, in this day and age of on demand entertainment and online subscription services, could The Fades possibly slash their production budget to live on at another home?
