Studio Ghibli Reveals Stills from ‘The Story of Princess Kaguya’

As far as I’m concerned one of the top flight animation companies is Studio Ghibli and they never fail to impress with their work. The latest Studio Ghibli production arriving is The Story of Princess Kaguya (or “Kaguya-hime no Monogatari” in Japanese) which is based on one of the oldest surviving pieces of Japan’s folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. The film is slated for a September release in Japan but no U.S. release date has been set as of yet; I’ll take a stab we’ll see the English dub in the States late next year.

As you can see in the few stills compiled by television network NHK the art is beautiful, with a very strong 19th century Nanga painting style vibe.

Since I’m not usually a fan of dubbed animation (I actually don’t mind reading subtitles for any film and if you avoid foreign movies because you hate watching AND reading at the same time you’re missing out) I’ll have to see if I can track down an opportunity to see Kaguya Hime no Monogatari with English subs.
