Obviously acquiring funding will be huge in getting King Conan (previously titled Legend of Conan) into production at Universal but a Cannes poster for the film has appeared indicating a release date of December 2015. Depending on how many investors can be rounded up in the shark tank which is the Cannes Film Festival, King Conan could begin principal photography later this year.
Following the lackluster performance of 2011’s Conan the Barbarian, I’m happy to see Arnold Alois Schwarzenegger returning to the role although he’s 66 years old. Personally I always had the impression Robert E. Howard’s hero was in his late 30s or early 40s during the period the King Conan stories take place but what do I know? Hopefully we’ll get a Conan more along the lines of the 1982 classic as opposed to the godawful PG campfest which was 1984’s Conan the Destroyer…
