Syfy has revealed their plans to bring a Superman prequel to television. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer will be at the helm of the series alongside writer Ian Goldberg. While Fox’s Gotham has been plagued by creating a world in which much of the continuity can’t be tampered with, Kyypton should be a blank slate since the series will be set long before Kal-El is ever born.
From Warner TV and DC Comics:
Krypton takes place years before the Superman legend we know, when the House of El was shamed and ostracized. This drama, which is in development, follows the Man of Steel’s grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.
On one hand fans will no doubt be concerned with the series coming to Syfy which as late has been home to low budget camp along the lines of Sharknado while, on the other hand, Syfy has publicly stated the network wants to produce more compelling programs which harken back to must see shows like Battlestar Galactica. Time will tell if Krypon is a hit or not but with Goyer on board I’ll guess the series will be better than expected.
