As DC Comics and Warner Brothers Studios look to establish a solid screen franchise outside of Batman, following lackluster performances of Superman Returns and the Green Lantern film as well as stalled projects such as Wonder Woman, eyes have turned to late 1990s comic powerhouse Lobo as a possible revenue generator. Over the weekend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson took to Twitter to confirm rumors flying of the actor being involved in negotiations to play the part of the crude, intergalactic bounty hunter were indeed true.
“Rumors of me possibly playing LOBO are true,” read Johnson’s tweet and he later added, “Joel Silver and Brad Peyton are working on it now. That could be fun.”
The film isn’t even in solid preproduction yet but Johnson has a track record of providing a box office boost to even the most pedestrian movie fare. Also, at the height of his popularity, the Lobo character ran neck and neck with Marvel’s very own icon, Wolverine so the thought of bringing “the last Czarnian” to the silven screen isn’t too big a stretch.
Could The Rock be the foundation in which Warner and DC can plant a solid tent pole in the future? Stay tuned as we’ll bring you the latest developments!
