Our friends over at MTVGeek are relaying a rumor that the Walt Disney Company is currently in discussions to acquire Hasbro. Granted, the post is from “GeekSpy” so there isn’t an actual reporter’s name affiliated with the post but I’ve found the folks at MTVGeek are usually on the money – or at least not blowing smoke – with their predictions. Of course, the indication is this purchase is simply in the talking phase at this point but if this would become a done deal there’d be some serious shakeups taking place in the entertainment industry. The logic for the purchase is there and it could only provide yet another feather in the Disney cap following their acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm.
Most interesting for our visitors is the fact Hasbro owns Wizards of the Coast so a pickup of the company by Disney would mean Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: The Gathering, and the Avalon Hill library would all come under the umbrella of the House of Mouse. That could be a good thing, especially for those of us who clamor for the reprinting of some of our favorite AH titles of the past. Hell, if Disney does acquire Hasbro, I’ll be the first to submit a resume to the company in regards to game development for getting some of those AH games back in print! Dare I even mention Disney could even consider bringing Heroscape back? Hmmm…
For now, this is all just rumor and you can read more of the details here.
